Hi, I’m Karin!

For many years, I felt like a “failed bilingual” due to poor advice from the educators who guided me as a child.

If you get to know me, I'll help you avoid making the same mistake with your children.

I speak 4 languages, but I was a “failed bilingual”

Hello and welcome!

My name is Karin, and I was born in Verona (Italy). Today, I speak four languages fluently: Italian, English, German, and Spanish, but for many years I felt like a “failed bilingual.” At home, I had the chance to speak both Italian and German, but my teacher discouraged my parents from speaking both languages to me to avoid confusing me.

At school, I started learning English in elementary school, and I quickly developed a great passion for foreign languages. So, I grew up with Italian at home and English at school.

I learned German as an adult, not without difficulty. It was a missed opportunity to acquire a second language from early childhood, and I don’t want you to make the same mistake!

After a decade of teaching foreign languages to young people and adults, I became interested in the language learning difficulties of children and realized my true passion: multilingualism.

After defending my PhD in Linguistics, I began working as a trainer for teachers and a consultant for families, guiding them through the multilingual education of their children.

My passion for linguistics and my parallel work as a tutor for children with dyslexia have helped me develop the most important skills in working with families: patience, empathy, the ability to explain, inspire, reassure, build confidence, and, of course, facilitate learning by putting the student at the center of attention.

Since 2014, I have been a consultant and trainer for multilingual education, helping people navigate the encounter between different languages and cultures with ease, listening to and supporting them with empathy and professionalism, drawing on my many years of experience abroad.

Through consultations, webinars, and training courses, I provide families with concrete tools and the most suitable methodologies to raise their children with more than one language.

My professional goal is to make this world a better place for future generations, and this also involves spreading information and raising awareness on the subject of multilingualism and language learning.

I help people feel comfortable speaking the language they prefer and become aware and understanding of linguistic and cultural differences. I do this by explaining the emotional, social, cognitive, and cultural benefits of speaking multiple languages, especially if acquired during childhood, and advising on the best methods and practical strategies.

A long journey of linguistic studies and valuable experiences with children

The Multilingual Garden: A place of knowledge, growth, and trust

The impact I want to achieve through my work is a more just, respectful, and open society for future generations. Knowing more languages means becoming more open-minded individuals and better citizens of this planet.

If, from an early age, we realized that the world is much bigger and more diverse than it seems, we would understand that there are many different ways of communicating, thinking, and living our lives. And none is better or worse than the other.

If, from a young age, we learned to respect this diversity and see it as a strength rather than an obstacle, I believe we would be able to live in a more harmonious and peaceful way.

Therefore, raising multilingual children becomes an opportunity for a more peaceful, fair, and tolerant world. To do this, we need to eliminate the myths, prejudices, fears, doubts, insecurities, and worries of us adults, especially parents.

For all these reasons, I created The Multilingual Garden, a space to share my passion, my mission, and my professional services. In this garden, multilingualism is seen as a valuable resource for both the individual and society.

“Languages are like flowers: they must be respected, appreciated, valued, and nurtured.”

This is the underlying philosophy, inspired by the Austrian mountain landscapes where I spent 12 years of my life.
